How to Elevate Bed
Description: Reader tips for elevating your bed.
Q: I'd like to elevate my bed to make use of the space underneath it. Any ideas on how to do this without using cinder blocks?
A: I have seen bed risers in the back of magazines they are not that expensive and come in different heights..Lowes or Home Depot might even have some...or you could use blocks of wood and drill a little well in them for the legs of the rail to sit in to make it more secure. I have thought about this myself. However, I decided against it since I don't put things under my bed anymore.
A: Another possibility would be to use shoe shelving unit cubes. These are made from particle board (pressboard), are usually white and available at most department stores such as Target, K-Mart, Wal-mart, Home Depot, Lowe's, etc. Use the shelving for open storage along the sides of the bed, and add same height three-sided particle board shelving for head and foot of the bed. This way the foot end is open and underbed storage boxes, cardboard or plastic, can be stored in center area of the bed. Cover all shelving with a duster and you've got a practical and unified solution for elevating your bed.
