Great Easter Decor for the Kitchen
by Jessica Ackerman
It may seem as though all of the other rooms in the house get most of the attention when it comes to holiday decor, but the kitchen is often left behind.
Whether it is because the kitchen is more of a functional space than the others or because our decorating inspiration runs out by the time we hit the kitchen sink, it is true that the kitchen does not receive as much attention. This spring, make the kitchen’s decor a priority when it comes to Easter decorating. You will find that with a few well placed decorations and some creative ideas, your kitchen will look just as festive as the other areas in your home. Try some of the ideas below to get you started on the road to decorating your kitchen for Easter.
Towels
If you do not have a lot of money to spend and time is at the bare minimum, head to the dollar store and invest in a few Easter theme dishtowels. This may seem like an odd way to decorate the room for the holiday, but it is a practical solution that is both festive and useful. If you would rather not use them for actual dish drying, hang them on the oven door handle or other hooks to just serve as decorative accessories.
Soap Dispensers
While you are at the dollar store, pick up an Easter theme liquid soap dispenser. Many times you will be able to find ones that are designed with the holidays in mind and, sometimes, they will even match the available dish towels. This is an easy way to bring some of the spirit of Easter to your kitchen sink.
Fun Curtains
Replace the normal, everyday kitchen curtains with those that are designed for spring and the Easter holiday. A cheerful spring plaid curtain can brighten up a space in no time. If you cannot find Easter theme curtains that are the size or fabric that you need, consider making some using fabric that you purchase at the fabric store. Simply hem or serge all of the edges and then fold down the top and add a seam to create a pocket for the curtain rod. You will have easy, custom made curtains that give you the exact look you are searching for.
Plants
A cheerful pink hyacinth, bright yellow daffodils, cheerful tulips or peaceful lilies are traditional Easter accessories. Put a couple pots of flowers on a windowsill above the sink, or on the breakfast bar. You can also dress up a common houseplant by placing a few plastic Easter eggs in the planter.
Decorating the kitchen for Easter is a great way to carry the celebration through the house and into every room. You will find that the addition of Easter decor in this heavily used space will be a welcome sight. If you are entertaining, your guests will also be impressed and delighted to find that even your kitchen is a part of the celebration.
