How to Decorate a Kitchen Window for Spring
by Alyssa Davis
After a long winter, it can be refreshing and invigorating to decorate a kitchen window for spring. Not only will your decorations look great from inside your home, but some spring window decorations will even add a pretty appearance when viewed from outdoors. If you're ready to add a fresh spring look to your kitchen window, here are some decorating ideas that you can use as a starting point.
Sparkling Clean Windows
A sparkling clean window is a prerequisite for spring decorating. Before you add any decorative touches, take the time to remove the dirt and debris that has undoubtedly accumulated on your window over the winter. Choose a day when the weather is nice, so that you'll be able to clean your kitchen window both inside and out. Use a good quality glass cleaner and lint-free wipes or towels, making sure to dry the windows thoroughly to prevent streaks. If you prefer a more natural approach to window cleaning, you could also make your own cleaning solution from white vinegar and plain water. Using old newspapers instead of paper towels is a great way to get your windows sparkling clean and free from streaks and lint. While you're at it, you should also remove all window treatments so they can be cleaned. Curtains should be laundered and pressed, while blinds can be washed in the bathtub. If your roller blinds are looking a bit tired, perhaps it's time to simply replace them.
Window Sill Decorations
Once your windows are sparkling clean, you're ready to start decorating. A sunny window sill can be the perfect location for a row of small potted flowers or fresh kitchen herbs. You could also use a kitchen window sill to display a collection of pretty glass bottles. To add a dash of color, fill clear bottles with colored water and add cork stoppers. A pretty collection of sparkly glass knick knacks or a small vase of daffodils or tulips can also add a nice springtime touch to your window sill.
Decorative Window Hangings
There are also plenty of decorative items that look great when hung in kitchen windows. A small wind chime can add a pretty touch, as well as a pleasant sound when the window is open. Crystal or stained glass decorations can look lovely in the kitchen window when the sun is shining through them. If you have a bay window in your kitchen, it could be the perfect location for a hanging plant or two.
Fun Window Clings
If there are children in the home, decorating the kitchen window with "window clings" can be a lot of fun. In fact, most adults also enjoy these cute, fun, easy and inexpensive decorations. You can choose a spring holiday themed pattern, or simply stick with floral or plant theme. These decorations are so inexpensive and easy to use that you can keep plenty on hand, changing your window decor theme whenever the mood strikes. Not only will these cute little window clings add a fun look to the inside of your home, but they will also be visible from outside.
