Nascar Themed Rec Room

Description: Reader responses to decorating a Nascar themed rec room.

Q: Hey there I need ideas creating a Nascar themed rec room. It's a Dale Jr. fan room, all ideas appreciated.

A: Wal-Mart has always had a lot of Jr. items in the toys section. Also, right now Sam's Club (and possibly Wal-Mart) has just received a nice stock of calendars and posters that have Jr., Sr., Bobby Labonte, Tony Stewart, and general Nascar and Daytona 500 themes on them. They were all under $15...and well worth it! Hope this helps!

A: It really depends on how far you are willing to go. You could paint the floor "checkered flag" style, (with the black and white squares), use red and white for the other colors in the room, pictures/posters of Dale Jr. and the number "8". You could make curtains from red material and stamp or embroidery the number "8" on the curtains. There are a lot of options. I would go to Dale Jr.'s web site and get ideas from there.

A: I have done several "themed" rooms for friends. One of the requests, was a Nascar theme. However, my friends son decided at the last minute that Nascar wasn't what he wanted. I already had my "plan" down on paper, so I'm happy to share some of my ideas with you: Paint the top half of the wall gray & the bottom half red, adding a yellow stripe, to join the two colors. I also picked up some checkered flags & planned on criss-crossing several pairs of them at different places in the room. Another idea was to find some used, (but clean) tires, stack maybe 3 of them on top of each other & add a round glass top to make a neat table. Use mainly the reds, blacks & gray colors & accent with yellow, here & there.

A: I was going to do my son's room with this theme. Go to a salvage yard and pick up the back seat of a large sedan. I would have used it as a headboard, but you can use it as a couch. For storage, use the big red tool drawers mechanics use. It's nice they're on wheels. You could spend a lot of money on cabinets using the new Gladiator or Coleman garage products (like diamond plate) or you can buy industrial gray shelving and use industrial plastic bins for cd's and smaller items (they come in great colors, but stick to red and yellow). Use a real steering wheel for a doorknob - maybe to the bathroom?!! Hope this helps and have fun!

A: I have done my sons room in all NASCAR - it started with celling fan. The hardest part was painting the walls - or should I say finding actual NASCAR colors. We were lucky to have friends that gave us life-size posters and a bookcase in the shape of an oil bottle. My point being that there are many many many items out there for decor - check with the auto parts store you use the most.
